Homemade Gel Plate for Mono Printing

I have seen gel plates all over the net, they can be very expensive.  This is another great tool to use for making painted papers to use in your journals and other pieces.  This is a great way to make them for the cost of a box of gelatin.

Supplies Needed:
mixing bowl
saucepan
wisk
1 cup measuring cup
a small flat container for pouring the gelatin in to harden
4 packets of unflavored gelatin

Pour 1 cup boiling water into mixing bowl

Add 4 packets of unflavored gelatin and dissolve in hot water

Add 1 cup of cold water and mix some more.  Skim the top of the gelatin with a piece of paper to get rid of the foam.

Pour into your flat container and let harden.  Hardening will take approximately 3 to 4 hours.  No need to put it in the refrigerator at this point, just leave it on the counter or table.

When it is finished hardening run a butter knife around the edges.

Gentle lift the end with the butter knife, just enough so you can get your hand underneath.

With your hand, gently remove the gel plate from the container, being careful not to crack it.

Place gel plate onto a piece of plastic.  You are now ready to print.  Store in your refrigerator wrapped in plastic wrap.
